MUSCLE SHOALS – The Northwest Alabama Regional Airport announced a $1.2 million renovation project today that will upgrade the facility and prepare it for anticipated growth. The announcement was made by Barry Auchly, Chairman of the Air Services Committee, and Barry Griffith, NARA Executive Director.
“Our remodeling and rehabilitation project will allow us to be more energy efficient, and will provide a better environment for the traveler to and from our airport,” said Auchly. ”As we begin our relationship with Silver Airways, and as the Shoals area continues to grow, we anticipate our airport will be a more and more important transportation artery for our area, and we want to be ready to meet that need.”
The renovations will include an entirely new wall system, composed of new exterior cladding, wall and roof air and moisture barriers, new insulation, a new roofing system and new interior wall finishes. The entrance will be revamped to accent this high-tech exterior facade.
Work is scheduled to begin in December, and will take up to a year to complete. “We are excited about the upgrades and changes we are about to make here,” said Griffith. “We ask the traveling public to bear with us during the construction, but promise that we are working hard to make it easier to Fly the Shoals.”
