Northwest Alabama BEST Robotics winners to compete at South’s BEST Regional Championship

MUSCLE SHOALS-Starkville Academy, Creekside Academy and Trinitas Classical Academy teams were the top three of a field of 21 teams that competed in the Northwest Alabama BEST Robotics GameDay competition held at Northwest Shoals Community College (NWSCC). Teams will now compete in the South’s BEST Robotics Regional Championship.
The South’s BEST Regional Championship will be held on December 13-14 at Alabama A&M in Huntsville, Ala. Creekside Academy, of Florence, Ala., will be competing as the defending 2023 national champion.
“We are immensely proud of all the teams that participated,” said Kim Sheppard, NW AL BEST Hub Director. “Their creativity, teamwork, and determination were evident, and we can’t wait to support them at the South’s BEST championship!”
The BEST Robotics season kicked-off Saturday, September 7, on the NWSCC Shoals campus for all area teams under the direction of Northwest Alabama BEST Robotics hub directors Kim Sheppard and Jeff Laughlin. The theme for this year’s competition was LOW G, A Lunar Robotics Challenge, which is all about robotics on the moon. Middle and high school student teams worked on their robot design & engineering process for eight weeks.
In November, the 2024 Northwest Alabama BEST Robotics GameDay culminated in the recognition of outstanding achievements, with 11 teams qualifying to advance to the South’s BEST Regional Championship in BEST (most prestigious, encompassing all BEST activities) and robotics and marketing notebook.
BEST category (most prestigious, encompassing all BEST activities):
  1. 1st Place: Starkville Academy (Mississippi)
  2. 2nd Place: Creekside Academy
  3. 3rd Place: Trinitas Classical Academy (Tennessee)
  4. Finalists: Brooks High School, Corinth City Schools, Covenant Christian School
Robotics and Marketing Notebook only category:
  1. Central High School
  2. Hatton High School
  3. McNairy Central High School (Tennessee)
  4. Rogers High School
  5. Winfield High School
