North Alabama to receive grants for parks

Montgomery-Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs , along with Governor Robert Bentley announced this week grants totaling $664810.00 for 6 counties in North Alabama to improve or replace parks and playgrounds destroyed or damaged by the 2011 April storms that ravaged the area.

Towns and counties included in the grants from The Land and Water Conservation Fund are Marshall County, The cities of Town Creek and Phil Campbell, De Kalb County, Jefferson County and the cities of Cullman and Decatur.

The LWCF program was created in 1965 by Congress and assists states with the development and preservation of outdoor recreational facilities. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant.
