MUSCLE SHOALS – Airport Director, Barry Griffith reported to the Chamber of Commerce’s Air Services Committee this morning that things are looking up. Way up… In their Quarterly gathering at the airport, Chamber Committee members were given the good news that boardings are within the criteria set by the Federal Government, and this will most likely protect our local scheduled service to Nashville and Atlanta. However, there is still some work to be done. Another criteria set by the Feds says that there can’t be more than a $200 fee for flights. Griffith said that with a few more passengers each month, the airport should see that number shortly.

The contract for air service with Boutique Air is scheduled to expire next February. Boutique Air has re-applied for the route and wants to continue its service to the people of Northwest Alabama.

In addition to Boutique Air, 3 other regional carriers are applying. The federal selection deadline is just around the corner, October 19th. so the selection should happen within the next few days, according to Griffith.

The other carriers are Air Choice One, SkyValue Airways and Contour Aviation.
