FLORENCE  – After waiting more than 38 hours for the first baby born in 2025, North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC) rang in the new year with its first bundle of joy Thursday afternoon. Weighing four pounds and 8 ounces and measuring 18 ¼ inches, Evelynn Ray Butler was born to Brandon and Carley Butler on Jan. 2, at 2:08 p.m.
“We are so thankful for everyone at NAMC,” said Carley Butler, who delivered at 34 weeks. “Having a premature baby can be stressful, but everyone was so kind and professional. It was a blessing and an overall great experience.”
Evelynn was delivered by Dr. Mary Robbins. She joins her older sister, Ella, who was born at NAMC in July of 2021.
The Center for Women and Children’s Health at NAMC offers a unique birth experience with a focus on quality care and comforting services. The facility features nine all-private delivery suites, including two HOPE Suite Delivery Rooms, outfitted with birthing tubs, where patients can experience a natural delivery experience if they choose. Cesarean operating rooms are available on the L&D floor, and the unit is staffed by six board-certified OBGYN’s, a lactation consultant and 40 nurses with a combined 100-plus years of experience in L&D.
“One of our greatest privileges is helping the families in our community welcome their newest additions in a healthy, positive and memorable way,” said NAMC Director of Women and Children’s Services Kendra Smith. “We have an extraordinary team of clinical and support staff who are committed to maintaining a safe, welcoming and comfortable environment for parents and their babies on New Year’s Day and year-round.”
The Center for Women’s and Children’s Health at North Alabama Medical Center also offers gynecological services, prenatal classes, 24/7 nursery support, and specialized medical equipment for newborns. In 2024, NAMC delivered 1,294 babies, including 14 sets of twins.
Virtual tours of the facility as well as the special care nursery and HOPE suites, as well as additional information on OBGYN services can be found at namccares.com/OBGYN.
