Funeral service for Norris W. Turney, 84, will be Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Forrest Chapel UMC with Rev. Jonathan Todd officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Forrest Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at Peck Funeral Home.
Mr. Turney died on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at his residence. He was born October 19, 1938, in Morgan County to Wesley Mason Turney and Sarah Bernice (Lemmond) Turney, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Turney was a member of the graduating class of 1957 from Morgan County High School. He received his degree from Florence State College (Now University of North Alabama) in 1961. He began a teaching and coaching career soon after at Morgan County High School and Priceville High School, respectively. In 1966, he became the first Elementary Physical Education Teacher at Burleson Elementary School. He was also named the first Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Hartselle Park and Recreation Department. He oversaw the construction of the Hartselle Parks and Recreation Center (Civic Center) and the Hartselle City Swimming Pool. He was the Director of the areas Agency on Aging for North Alabama Regional Government (NARCOG) and serving at the Seniors Centers throughout the Tri-County Area until he officially retired in 1996.
Mr. Turney was also a lifelong and faithful member of the Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church and served in numerous positions throughout the years.
He married the love of his life, Mary Frances, on July 9th, 1966 and they were together for their 57th wedding anniversary this year.
Siblings- Russell Coy Turney, Latane Burgess and Hazel Ward preceded him in death.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Muller, Larry Metzger, Jim Robertson and Bobby Sharp.
Family requests that Memorial contributions be made to Forrest Chapel UMC or to the charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers.
