Norman Hollis Hendry, 86, of Decatur, Alabama passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Decatur Morgan Hospital in Decatur, Alabama. He was born on Friday, October 1, 1937, in Jasper County, Mississippi.
Mr. Norman Hendry was an entrepreneur at heart, always seeking to make things better regardless of the venture. Mr. Hendry began his career in animal health pharmaceutical sales with Abbott Laboratories in the sixties. By the 1970s, he decided to return to his roots in Mississippi and began farming hundreds of acres of soybeans, and in parallel, he was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives where he served for four years. He was the first person to ever transport soybeans by rail from his hometown of Bay Springs, MS. He also was a Charter Board Member and one of the founders of Sylva-Bay Academy in 1970. Later, he became an independent oil producer and owner of a poultry equipment supply company. He was a Trustee at Walter’s Chapel Church for a time. In the early 1990s, it was time for a new adventure, and he began working in the automotive industry at Delphi and Delco Remy where he continued to work until his retirement in 2008. During retirement, he enjoyed fishing and deer hunting, especially with his son, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nephew, and other family and friends, as well as riding his Honda Goldwing Motorcycle, and following the stock market. Many days over the past few years, you could usually find him in his recliner with the lamp shining over his shoulder reading his Bible. After all his adventures, what was really the most important thing to him-—-—– Love of God and Love of Family.
