Norma Ozelle Sharrott McAbee, 101, of Hartselle, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her residence on September 18, 2024. Born on October 25, 1922, she lived a long and full life, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and devotion to her family.
Funeral service will be Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Peck Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Griffis officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Ozelle was the daughter of Norman Corbett Sharrott and Clara Lucille Norris Sharrott. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 73 years, Lloyd McAbee, as well as her sons Joe W. McAbee, Tommy McAbee, and Ricky McAbee, her son-in-law Russell Graydon, her daughter-in-law Suzanne McAbee, her grandson Keith Ireland, and her siblings Kenneth Sharrott, Frank Sharrott, Amanda Sandlin, Dorothy Vest Wright, Virginia Segars, and Jan Griffin.
She is survived by her daughter, Pat Graydon, her son William (Billy) McAbee and wife Wanda of Hartselle, daughters-in-law Jane McAbee of Decatur, GA, Sarah McAbee and Charlotte McAbee, both of Hartselle, former son-in-law Jimmy George of Hartselle, and her sister, Gail Puckett of Hartselle.
She was the proud grandmother of Allison McAbee, Heather Horne (Cameron), Brad George (Dawn), Glenn George, Corbett McAbee, Rachel Zelinski (Steven), and Allen Vinson (Missy). Her legacy continues through numerous great-grandchildren who will carry forward her memory.
Throughout her 101 years, Ozelle was a pillar of strength and grace for her family and community. She was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church for over 70 years, serving in various roles, most notably as Chair of the Hospitality Committee. Affectionately known by her family as the Matriarch, she loved cooking, growing beautiful flowers, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends on Lockhart Road.
The family extends special thanks to Bro. Jeff, Savannah, Nicole, Tarah, and Jan with Aveanna Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Aveanna Hospice, 2424 Danville Road, Decatur, Alabama 35603.
Pallbearers will be Brad George, Glenn George, Tyler George, Cameron Horne, Steven Zelinski, Luke Elliott, and Caleb Vinson.
