Norma Mae Cox Williams, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation in Madison, AL. Norma was born in Carroll County, VA, the fourth child of Paul Lewellyn Cox and Anna Allen Cox. She was the widow of Don Roe Williams.
Norma and Don were high school sweethearts and married on March 26, 1954. They lived in Garmisch-Bavaria, while Don was serving in the US Army. In 1960, they moved to Huntsville AL.
Norma and Don were very active in the Huntsville community and loved to travel. They enjoyed camping and fishing with their Airstream Club friends and regularly boated in the numerous lakes around Huntsville and in the Gulf of Panama City. Norma and Don were also avid fans and followers of NASCAR racing for over 25 years.
After Don passed, Norma continued to travel with her church group, led by Pastor Doug Merchant, at Willowbrook Baptist Church in Huntsville. For several years, she and her sister, Betty, attended weekend seminars at the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove in Asheville, NC. As long as her health allowed her, she continued to drive from Huntsville to Galax to visit with her family and friends.
Norma loved life and lived it to the fullest. Her faith was strong, her outgoing personality and humorous wit will forever be remembered. Her family and friends will miss her tremendously.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Roe Williams; sister, Eunice Cox Cole (Kyle); brother, Paul Allen Cox (Roseline); and, brother-in-law, Eugene Manus.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Cox Manus, of Blacksburg, VA; nieces, Margaret Williams Kyle (Tom) of Galax, VA, and Melissa Williams Joyce (James) of Fries, VA; and, nephew, Paul Stuart Cox (Eileen) of Chesterfield, VA. Several grand-nieces and grand-nephews also survive.
Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Monta Vista Gardens in Galax, VA, with Pastor Sam Bartlett officiating.
