Norma Jean Thomas Burkeens, age 83 passed away January 28, 2015 at the Henderson Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born February 21, 1931 in McNairy County the daughter of the late George and Eliza Parlee Plunk Thomas. She was employed by Salant & Salant Mfg. for thirty years and later by Chester County Sportswear. Mrs. Burkeens retired in 1987. She was a member of the Maggie Jones Methodist Church near Finger.
Mrs. Burkeens is survived by two daughters, Diane Durrance of Henderson and Michelle Burkeens (Kristan Pickett) of Henderson; one son, Ruel Burkeens (Diane) of Finger; a stepdaughter, Shirley Burkeens of Memphis and two stepsons, J.C. Burkeens of Richmond, VA and Prince Burkeens of Enville; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Johnson Chapel with Ken Kitchen officiating and burial will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Johnson Chapel 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday.
