NonaNona Mae Dixon, of Sheffield, died Saturday, March 7, 2015. Her family will receive friends Wednesday, March 11, 2015, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. Her funeral service will follow in the chapel with Bill Bedsole officiating. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.

Nona live in Iuka, Mississippi until she married Thomas Edward Dixon at the age of 18 on June 30, 1934. They moved to Sheffield and lived there to both their demises. She was married for 52 years and was one of eight children who all preceded her in death. Her family is broken hearted and didn’t want to let her go, but we are comforted to know that she is no longer in pain or suffering and was ready to go meet her Lord and her family that have preceded her in death. She left a wonderful legacy here on earth and was the rock of our family. We will miss so many wonderful things about her, but most of all her love for talking, her sweet nature, and always loving each of us unconditionally. She loved to cook and sew. We will miss those holiday gatherings and Sunday lunches where everyone would congregate at her house for some of the best southern cooked food you’ve ever eaten. No one could cook like her. We would leave miserable after over-eating but be ready for the next Sunday.

Her hobby was alterations; it started out for a few friends back in the 1960s. It grew and grew, and before you knew it, she was altering for The Elite Dress Shoppe in 1970 and continued for more than 40 years. She truly touched the heart and soul of everyone that met her. She always treated people the way she wanted to be treated.

She loved the Lord and her family with all her heart. She was meant in life to be a mother and grandmother. She gave all the love she could to all of us. Her family was her life. We have been so blessed to have had her in our lives, had her loving influence all our lives, and so grateful for her helping make each one of us the person we are today.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Thomas Edward Dixon, her sons, James Edward, George Sidney, and Carl Wayne Dixon, and granddaughter, Karen Goins Riggins.

She is survived by her son, Larry Dixon and wife, Kathy, of Muscle Shoals; daughters, Linda Dixon Goins, of Tuscumbia, and Martha Sue Davis and husband, Anthony, of Tuscumbia; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Steve Nix, Anthony Davis, Charlie Grimmitt, Greg Davidson, George Rhear, and Wes Emmons.

Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at P.O. Box 1608, Florence, AL 35631 or PAWS at 2701 Mall Road, PMP 277, Florence, AL 35630.
