Noel Susie Knight Saunders of Huntsville, AL, peacefully passed away on October 29, 2024. A memorial service will be held on November 2, 2024, at 1:00 PM, with visitation starting at 12:00 PM, in the chapel at First Baptist Church of Huntsville, 600 Governors Dr. Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life and share in the love she brought to all who knew her.
Noel was born on August 17, 1952, in Jennings, Louisiana to Herschel Norris Knight and Susie Jo Knight. She is remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, devoted sister, and passionate event coordinator at Burritt on the Mountain Museum.
A woman of many interests, Noel loved cooking (especially her famous brisket, gumbo, and jambalaya), playing Bunco with friends, decorating for holidays, and participating in church activities and Bible studies. She enjoyed ministering through cooking homemade meals for those recovering from surgeries, illnesses, or just because she thought they needed it.
Noel traveled to dozens of countries across six continents, exploring cultures and creating cherished family memories. After retiring, she valued her time with family (especially her grandkids), enjoying moments with friends, and cheering on her LSU Tigers.
Noel is survived by her former spouse, Jim Saunders; son, James Saunders; daughter, Sullivan Buerger (Andrew); grandchildren, Grace Witherspoon, Brayden Buerger, and Carter Buerger; and three sisters, Georgeanna Hanes (Norman), Allison Knight, and Tisdale McDonald (Kyle).
