FLORENCE – North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC) was the location of a story five generations in the making. Ninety-four year-old Peggy Murphy concluded her recent stay at NAMC by meeting her great, great grandson, John Bradley Turner, who was born on July 11.
Following her discharge, Murphy made a stop on the labor and deliver floor to meet her family’s newest addition. “He is so
precious,” she said. “I can’t wait for him to come visit me at my house and learn to swim in my swimming pool. He’s just perfect.”

Jillian was born in 2001 in Boaz. Her father, David was born in Florence in 1980. David’s father, Doug Murphy, was born in 1953 at ECM in Florence. He was one of three sons of Peggy, who was born in 1931 in Columbia, Tennessee.

“John Bradley is our first child and we had a great experience,” said Jillian Turner. “Everyone was so kind and knowledgeable. The nurses were also so sweet and attentive. Having him get to meet my great grandmother was the icing on the cake.”
North Alabama Medical Center has delivered 677 babies through the first six months of 2024. The total is on pace to break the facility’s record of 1,345 births set in 2022.
NAMC’s Center for Women and Children is located within the hospital offers obstetric and gynecology care, as well as pediatrics, breast health and educational classes for new and expecting mothers. The department also follows Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) guidelines.
The labor and delivery unit features two HOPE Suite rooms geared toward natural births and include a laboring tub, Bluetooth monitoring system, birthing balls, and birthing swing. NAMC maintains a Level II special care nursery.
