Nettie Jo Stewart, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday August 29, 2024, at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo, MS, surrounded by loved ones.

Funeral Services honoring the life of Mrs. Nettie will be at 10 AM Sunday September 1, 2024, at Living Waters Chapel in the Theo Community with Bro. Cayce Conti and Bro. Ricki Parker officiating. Visitation will be from 4 PM until 9 PM on Saturday August 31, 2024, at Living Waters Chapel. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born October 25, 1935, at her childhood home in Hatchie Bottom, Mrs. Nettie was the daughter of the late Christopher Long and Amanda Ione Hensley Tate. She attended school in a one room schoolhouse in Walnut, before marrying her beloved husband, James Harold Stewart, who preceded her in death on August 2, 2014. Together they raised nine children, where Mrs. Nettie was devoted to her husband, and children. She always made sure her family was taken care of, and the table always full of food and home full of love.

A Christan and good southern woman, Mrs. Nettie believed in the good old fashion way of life. She loved being outdoors fishing and gardening, as she produced many vegetables every year that she would share with her community. Food was her love language, and she knew the way to a person’s heart was always through their stomach. Her family has many memories revolving around all the times Mrs. Nettie would cook a huge feast and invite everyone into their home for a meal. A busy body, she never sat still and was constantly on the go. Mrs. Nettie knew the true riches in life, which are keeping life simple, do right by others, surrounding yourself by family and friends, and loving the Lord with all you have. Although we will miss her dearly, we are reminded that it’s not always about what we have in our life but who we have that matters most.

Those left to cherish her memories include seven daughters, Nettie Joyce Brock (Harold), Cindy Lou Kuznecoff (Michael), Janet M. Godwin (Willie), Sandra K. Alamillo (Armando), Darlene Kirkendoll, Tracy Jo Godwin, and Charlotte A. Harrington, two sons, David H. Stewart (Karin) and Thomas P. Stewart (Tonya), one sister, Jane Elaine K. Poston, and over one hundred grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Ripley Funeral Home invites you to share memories with Mrs. Nettie’s family.
