Obituary of Nelda Faye SegarsNelda Faye Kimbrough Segars, a long-time resident of Decatur, went to be the Lord, Friday the 12th of January at the age of 78 at Decatur Morgan Hospital after a long battle with leukemia. Visitation will be Friday, January 19th, 2024 at Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery from 2:00 to 3:00 pm followed by a graveside service at 3:00 pm conducted by her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Floyd Kimbrough, Sr. and Venice Miller Kimbrough; brothers, Floyd Kimbrough, Jr. and William (Bill) Kimbrough; sisters, Margaret Terry, Dorothy Kimbrough, and Thelma Kimbrough; and son, Jason Segars.

She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Thomas Segars; her son, Christopher (Debbie) Segars; Daughter-in-law, Sharon Segars; Grandchildren, Sarah (Jake) Levins, Samuel (Molly) Segars, Dr. Jonothon (Olivia) Segars, Andrew (Emily) Segars, Jeremey Segars, Madeline (Dominic) Dixon; great-grandchildren, Colt and Bridger Levins, Sawyer and Rosemary Segars, and Wilder Segars and Dominic Dixon Jr. both due in May; sisters Barbara (Jimmy) Cole; sisters-in-law Marie Kimbrough and Jean Kimbrough; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born April 15, 1945 in Decatur, AL, she graduated from Decatur High School in 1963. Shortly after, she married the love of her life, Thomas Segars. Within the next few years, she had her two boys and held a variety of jobs that allowed her to spend time with her family. Once her boys were older, she started working for the U.S. Department of Commerce International Trade Administration culminating in her being the Director of the US Commercial Service in Birmingham. This job allowed her to travel the world and bring lots of stories back to her grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and their spouses.

The family wishes to recognize her grandson, Jeremey Segars, who diligently cared for his grandmother during her final years. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society.
