Naomi Landers Turner passed away February 23, 2024. She was born in Big Cove (Hampton Cove) Madison County to John Matthew Landers and Lena Tuck Landers.

She was a graduate of Monrovia High School where she was a cheerleader and a recipient of the DAR Good Citizenship Award. She attended college at Kentucky, University of Alabama Huntsville and graduated from Gadsden State Junior College with an associate’s degree. Naomi was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Huntsville where she taught adult and children’s Sunday School, as well as the Special Needs Sunday School class. Naomi volunteered as a Gray Lady at Huntsville Hospital. In Gadsden, she was a member of Rainbow Presbyterian Church, Rainbow City, Alabama. Also in Gadsden she learned some conversational Spanish so she could read to the children learning English as a second language. She was an avid bridge player and tennis player at Gadsden Country Club. A world traveler, we often said it was easier to tell you where she had not been than to list her trips.

Naomi was employed at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville and later worked for the Huntsville City School Systems as a registrar.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 67 years and high school sweetheart, Hammond Curry Turner; brothers, John Landers, Luther Landers, Melvin Landers, and Shelby Landers; sisters, Lois Hall and Mamie S’fero; and son-in-law, Edward Alan Burks

Survivors include her children, Lind Turner Burks, and Carlyn Turner Deeds (John); and grandchildren, Turner Alan Burks and Parker Hammond Burks; and very special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Staff of Westminster Assisted Living, Decatur, Alabama for six years of love and care. We also want to thank the staff of Moulton NHC, Moulton, Alabama for their attentive care most recently and Hospice of the Valley, Decatur, Alabama.
