Nancy Stroud Lowrey Adair, 84 of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville. Mrs. Adair was born September 18, 1936 in Limestone County to A.W. Stroud and Eula Eddins Stroud. She is preceded in death by her parents, one stepdaughter, Darlene Adair, and her first husband, Dane Lowrey. Mrs. Adair was a graduate of East Limestone High School, University of Montevallo, University of Alabama Master’s Program. She taught English at Cullman High School, Huntsville High School, and finally ended her career at Grissom High School where she taught for 35 years. She was a member of Huntsville First Baptist Church for over 50 years. Her professional involvements included the Joseph F. Johnson Chapter #198 United Daughters of the Confederacy, inducted October 30, 1961. Nancy was also a “Real Granddaughter”; her grandfather was Benjamin Graves Eddins. She was a member of the Huntsville Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution since February 1, 1962, and served as Chapter Regent (Chapter President) from 2006-2008. She was very proud of her heritage. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Sorority and served as President of the Delta Chapter in Huntsville in 1986. Nancy was awarded Recognition for Excellence in Teaching by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Billy Adair; one daughter, Elizabeth Lowrey Nunnally (Ricky) and granddog, Sonny, of Huntsville; one stepson, Richard Adair of Huntsville, three step-grandchildren, Dustin Adair, Joy Lamb, Melody Adair; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Evelyn, Ryder, and London Adair; one brother, Wesley Stroud; two nephews, one niece, several great nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 2 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel in Athens with Richard Adair, (minister at Hampton Cove Church), officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-2 P.M. Burial will be at Athens City Cemetery.
