Nancy Dixon McCormick, age 76, departed this life on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Charter Senior Living Memory Care in Jackson, TN, surrounded by caring family and friends. Nancy was born December 13, 1947, in Brownsville, TN. She was the daughter of Malcolm D. Dixon and Frances C. Dixon.
Nancy graduated from Haywood County High School and went on to further her studies at the University of TN at Knoxville, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Education. She later completed her Masters of Science in Education from the University of Memphis. She was a History teacher for the Jackson Madison County School System until her retirement. Nancy touched many lives as she taught with the determination to see that her students were prepared to succeed in life, as well as the classroom. Nancy rarely went anywhere in Jackson without a former student recognizing her with a smile and a “Hello Mrs. McCormick! How are you?”
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, James “Jim” H. McCormick; father, Malcolm D. Dixon; mother, Frances C. Dixon; and sister, Martha Dixon Bland. She is survived by her brother, Malcolm Durwood Dixon; brothers-in-law, Dan Bland, John McCormick, and William N. McCormick; sister-in-law, Claudia McCormick Wilson; and several nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by many friends who loved her dearly.
A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2024, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Rev. Will Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
