THE SHOALSThe NAACP Tri-County Branch announces its 30th Annual NAACP Freedom Awards Banquet as a breakfast catered by Rhoda P’s.  This year marks the return of the popular gathering for the first time since 2019.  The Breakfast begins at 9am on Saturday, June 17th and will be held at the Tuscumbia Roundhouse.  Due to Covid related health concerns, the Branch had for the past three years substituted the organization’s traditional annual banquet fundraiser with what they promoted as “Dine In Dinners”.  This year’s NAACP Breakfast will take place during the weekend of Juneteenth and will be the first of several activities planned for that day.

The Branch will again honor individuals and organizations who have excelled in the areas of:  Leadership, Youth Service, Community Service, Civic Duty, Humanitarianism, Education, and Spiritual Guidance by presenting them with Freedom Awards.  Tri-County Branch President Tori Bailey said “our Freedom Awards honor those who go above and beyond to make our community a better place for all,” and that she looks forward to presenting them in person again this year to give awardees a chance to shine.

Bailey said the banquet has always been well attended and typically draws elected officials, church members, community leaders, and anyone who wants to be inspired.  A table of eight can be purchased for $240.00, while individual tickets are available for $30.00 each.  A souvenir program for the 30thAnnual Freedom Award Banquet will feature ads at a cost of $35.00 for a quarter page, $60.00 for half a page, $100.00 for a full page, $150.00 for the inside front or back cover, and $200.00 for the back cover. Patron ads are $20.  Ads and payments may be mailed to NAACP at Post Office Box 2110, Muscle Shoals, Alabama 35662.  Funds raised by the Banquet assist in providing civil rights advocacy.

The Tri County Branch was chartered in 1965 to serve Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin Counties.  More information about the Branch can be found at wwww.NAACPTriCountyAlabama.org, by calling NAACP at 256-383-4260, by emailing President@NAACPTriCountyAlabama.org, or by listening to their radio program at 8:30am on Sunday mornings at www.WZZARadio.com.    Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month and are open to the public.

Bailey said, “the Freedom Awards Breakfast Banquet will be a morning of celebration of our shared interests and mutual goals to make our community a more welcoming place for all.”  All are invited to be part of the celebration of Juneteenth by attending the 2023 NAACP Tri-County Freedom Awards Breakfast Banquet.
