Murphree Shaw Flippen, Sr., 85, of Killen, Alabama passed away Thursday November 23, 2023. Born in Tuscumbia, AL and raised in Russellville, AL where he attended First Methodist Church, earned his Eagle Scout Badge, and graduated from Russellville High School where he played on the football team. He graduated from the University of Alabama and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpa fraternity. He had an early career in sales in the furniture industry and later ran the local businesses the Carpet Barn and Bellemeade Antique Mall. After retiring to his home on Shoal Creek, he enjoyed hobbies such as boating, fishing, woodworking, and restoring antique MG sports cars. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Wheeler Flippen and Marguerite Shaw Flippen; brothers William Shaw Flippen and Samuel Armistead Flippen; sisters Margaret Ann Wright and Betty Jane Bryson. Surviving siblings are Daisy Flippen Kinard, Dr. Joseph Wheeler Flippen, Mary Francis Flippen, and Martha Flippen Laster.
The surviving family includes his wife of 61 years, Andrea Allison Flippen; sons Murphree Shaw Flippen, Jr., Jerald Edwin Flippen (Stacy Hyer), John Allison Flippen (Christopher Swope); and granddaughters Anna Claire Flippen and Lillian Allison Flippen. A private burial will be held for the immediate family at the Stevenson City Cemetery. Arrangements will be provided by Rudder Funeral Home and condolences can be left on their website (rudderfuneralhomes.com). A celebration of Murphree’s life will be announced at a later date.
