Murl Howard Newberry – Obituary

murlMurl Howard Newberry, 82, passed away Sunday in Huntsville. Born in Bellwood, Alabama, he is predeceased by his wife, Barbara Peoples Newberry and his parents, Murl Howard Newberry and Mrs. Ethel Newberry Fuford of Hartford, Alabama.

Howard received his Bachelors of Science degree and pursued a M.S. degree from Troy State University where he met Barbara Peoples, his future wife. He continued his post graduate work at Auburn University and at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Howard worked for NASA (1957-1981) as an electronics engineer. While at NASA he developed original automated telemetered post evaluation software to analyze Redstone, Jupiter, and Saturn I guidance and re-entry performance. After retiring from NASA, he worked for Teledyne Brown Engineering, CSC, and KBM. He was an Army veteran. Howard loved working on his nursery, fishing, beekeeping, carving, woodworking, and growing a vegetable garden. He delighted in being in the company of his children, their spouses, his grandchildren, and his great-granddaughter.

Survivors include his children, Joseph Howard Newberry (Marie Carlile) of Madison, Alabama, Medina Newberry Richards (Bobby Ray) of Brandon, Mississippi, Timothy Felix Newberry (Patricia Justison) of Madison, Alabama, and Robert Steven Newberry (Sabine Plank) of New Hope, Alabama; grandchildren, Joseph Scott Newberry (Kim), Michelle Newberry Epling (Adam), Jennifer Newberry Rich (Riley), Heather Nicole Richards, Christine Newberry, Jane Newberry, Kate Newberry, Samuel Newberry, Sarah Newberry, and David Newberry; and great-granddaughter, Cora Evelyn Newberry.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville, Alabama.
