Muriel Jeanne King, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away on April 23, 2024, at the age of 94. She was born on August 14, 1929, in River Rouge, Michigan, and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to those around her.

Jeanne’s passion for education led her to become a cherished teacher, inspiring countless young minds throughout her career in Michigan, Florida, and Alabama. She taught elementary school kids at Holy Spirit, Jones Valley, St Joe’s, and Queen of the Universe schools, as well as business students at Alverson Draughon Business College and soldiers at Redstone’s army base. She had a natural gift for connecting with her students, and her enthusiasm and creativity made learning a joyous experience for all. Jeanne and her husband Jim spent countless hours decorating classrooms, arranging, and chaperoning field trips, and hosting ‘Angels of the Week’ for Friday night spaghetti dinners or Saturday morning breakfasts.

As a mother to eight children, Jeanne’s love and nurturing spirit knew no bounds. She poured her heart into raising her children, instilling in them the values of compassion, kindness, and the importance of family. Her children were her pride and joy, and she delighted in watching them grow. Christmas and the Fourth of July were her favorite times of the year when all of her family came home to celebrate. Jeanne’s love and pride extended to her 14 grandchildren, who were always greeted with open arms and boundless affection.

Jeanne was a woman who never knew a stranger. Her warm and welcoming nature endeared her to all who crossed her path. Invitations to family celebrations were always extended to friends and acquaintances, and everyone was welcomed to the King’s Christmas, where there was always something waiting under the tree for anyone who may attend. She had a radiant smile and an infectious laugh that could light up any room. She was always at the ready with a funny story or tall tale.

Jeanne was an active member of Holy Spirit Church, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear as she sat behind the counter of the religious bookstore she managed. Her genuine kindness and generosity touched the lives of many and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her.

A devout Catholic, Jeanne found solace and strength in her faith. She was a regular attendee of daily Mass, finding comfort and guidance in her relationship with God. Jeanne’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with the strength to face any challenge with grace and determination.

In her free time, Jeanne enjoyed the company of friends and family. She cherished her monthly bridge outings, family cribbage games, and her beloved Notre Dame football. Jeanne loved her routines. She had her special seat up front at Sunday Mass where she could greet everyone on their way back from communion. She loved her Sunday mornings at IHOP, where Debbie and the other staff treated her with such generosity and kindness.

Muriel Jeanne King, our mother and friend, will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her vibrant spirit, love, and zest for life touched the hearts of many and will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been a part of her life. May her memory be a blessing and may she rest in eternal peace.

Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband, James (Jim) King; daughter, Jeannette Chaney; and son, Thomas (Tommy) King. She is survived by two sons, James King Jr. and John King (Okcha); two daughters, Mary Jane King and Margie Dorantes (Rodrigo); fourteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
