MADISON COUNTY-The Madison County sheriff’s Department issued a statement concerning a murder suicide that happened in Madison County on Christmas Eve:

Madison County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a home in the 200 block of Bermuda Lakes Drive in New Market Friday following a 911 call of a shooting at approximately 11:30am.
Follow-up investigation has determined that the father, Rodney Gardner, 41 years of age, and the son, Caleb Gardner, 14 years of age, were in an argument in a bedroom. The argument escalated and the son shot the father with a handgun and then turned the gun on himself in what is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
A female in the home dialed 911 after hearing the argument and gunshots and then waited outside for Deputies. Deputies entered the home and found both the father and son deceased in a bedroom. The investigation is ongoing and there are no other details available at this time.
Sheriff Turner said “Death of a loved one is always difficult for the rest of the family, but to lose both a father and son at the same time is heart breaking. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family as well as our Deputies and other first responders who had to investigate this horrible incident”.
