MUSCLE SHOALS-The Muscle Shoals Police Department issued a statement concerning the arrest of one suspect who has been charged with several charges including Drug Trafficking:
“Drug Investigation
On July 18, 2022, Tavio Keontae Ruffin, 27, of Muscle Shoals was arrested and transported to the Muscle Shoals Police Department Jail where he was charged with Drug Trafficking, Receiving Stolen Property 2nd Degree, and also received a Barring Notice. The investigation into Ruffin’s arrest is as follows:
On July 18, 2022 at approximately 4:30PM, Officers with Day Shift-B Patrol Division received a call to a local storage unit facility in reference to a “Suspicious Person/Suspicious Activity.” The call was made by an employee of the facility who told Day Shift B Officers about a man and woman at an empty storage unit who were not supposed to be there. The employee stated the two had parked a vehicle in front of the empty unit and had all the doors to the vehicle open. Officers located the vehicle, made contact with the two and confirmed neither had business to be on the property.
An Officer on scene told the two subjects he could smell a strong odor of marijuana. The male subject, identified as Tavio Keontae Ruffin, told the Officer the marijuana was inside his vehicle along with a firearm that was his. Officers retrieved the marijuana and the firearm, which was reported to be stolen. The Officers confirmed the firearm to be stolen through MSPD Dispatch and at that time placed Ruffin in custody.
A safety search of Ruffin was conducted once he was placed under arrest. This is standard procedure and policy prior to transporting any individual placed into custody. During the search Ruffin was found to be in possession of over 350 Fentanyl pills. Ruffin was then transported to MSPD Jail without incident. The female was barred from the business and allowed to leave the premises.
This investigation is being worked in coordination with the Colbert County Drug Task Force given the amount of Fentanyl located. A warrant for Ruffin was obtained for the charges of “Drug Trafficking” and “Receiving Stolen Property 2nd Degree.”
The owner of the stolen firearm has been notified.
Ruffin is being held on a $20,000 Bond in the Colbert County Jail. However, The Colbert Drug Task Force will be working with the Lauderdale County District Attorney’s Office due to Ruffin being out on bond for a separate felony case in Lauderdale County.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
