FLORENCE—Teachers in the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area can apply for an MSNHA field-trip grant, which helps fund transportation to local historical and cultural sites.

Elementary and secondary teachers in MSNHA’s six counties–Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale,

Lawrence, Limestone and Morgan–are eligible to apply. Maximum grant amount is $200. The MSNHA will award up to six grants this fall. Applications and guidelines are on the MSNHA website, http://msnha.una.edu/resources/field-trip-grants/.

This is the first year MSNHA has offered field-trip grants.

“We want to help provide our students with opportunities to experience the rich history and culture of our region first-hand,” said Carrie Crawford, MSNHA director. “Teachers who are planning a field trip to Bankhead National Forest to learn about Alabama’s biodiversity, Muscle Shoals Sound Studio to learn about our music heritage, Oakville Indian Mounds Museum and Education Center to learn about Native American culture or any other significant MSNHA site should consider applying.”

In addition, anyone who wants to help support more field-trip grants for local teachers and students may contribute to the program at our “Donate” page at msnha.una.edu.

Visit the MSNHA website, http://msnha.una.edu/, or email msnha@una.edu for details.
