THE SHOALS-The Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area, a program of the National Park Service that helps
communities in northwest Alabama protect and promote cultural resources, has $31,750 in grant
funding to allocate before Sept. 30, the end of the fiscal year.

Applications and details are at https://msnha.una.edu/resources/community-grants-program/.
Cost of projects should be between $1,000 and $7,500, with a required 1:1 match. A project’s
period is one year from the start of the contract, said MSNHA Director Carrie Crawford.
MSNHA has been moving the grant-application process online to make the process easier for
applicants and staff, she added.

“With this new system, we are also testing a new rolling grant deadline versus our traditional
spring and fall deadlines. At the start of each fiscal year, we’ll announce the amount we have
available for community grants and start accepting applications,” Crawford said. “When all
funding is allocated — at whatever point in the year — we will close applications. This will
ensure all available funding is allocated, but it does mean that applicants will need to plan ahead
to get their applications in close to the start of the fiscal year.”
