MSNHA accepting grants proposals

FLORENCE—The Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area has opened a grants round for projects related to recreational planning and historic-preservation planning. The deadline for applicants to submit their proposals is 5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15.

“Public and private non-profit agencies within the MSNHA six-county service area or representing projects located within the MSNHA service area are eligible to apply for this award,” said Emily Rhodes, MSNHA grants coordinator. “Local businesses in the MSNHA may apply for bricks and mortar preservation projects for buildings listed on or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.”

To submit a proposal, email a PDF or Word document as a single attachment to Rhodes at ebrhodes@una.edu by the deadline. The email should be titled “MSNHA Subaward” with the name of the applicant in the title of the attachment.

Proposals should include applicant name and contact information, description of the applicant organization, project description, project budget showing 1:1 match, commitment letter or resolution signed by mayor or executive officer and timeline for completion. Proposals should also contain descriptions of site control and properties that will be affected in sufficient detail to determine ownership, property control and potential impact, Rhodes said.

Projects will be evaluated on their connection to the MSNHA management plan, feasibility and community impact. Proposals that involve design documents or construction may be required to complete environmental screening. Funds may be requested for environmental assessments relating to a project connected to MSNHA management plan and, Rhodes added.
