FLORENCE – Outdoor-recreation organizers have scheduled two public meetings in Colbert County – 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Sheffield Public Library and 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Leighton Town Hall — to hear ideas for connecting communities with resources and opportunities.

“There are many exciting recreation initiatives happening across north Alabama, including the Tennessee RiverLine and the Singing River Trail,” said Carrie Crawford, Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area director.

MSNHA is working with the National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program to develop a master plan for trail development in Colbert County that will connect communities to both the RiverLine and the SRT, she said.

“The plan will also suggest routes for connectivity between recreation resources and help Colbert County think about new areas for recreation development,” Crawford added. “Come join us and share your thoughts about bike routes, hiking trails and new kayaking access points!”

A partnership program of the National Park Service, National Heritage Areas recognize regions throughout the country that help tell America’s story. The MSNHA is hosted by the University of North Alabama and focuses on the themes of music, Native Americans and the Tennessee River. Email msnha@una.edu & visit msnha.una.edu for more information.
