BIRMINGHAM-The Ms. Senior Alabama 2022-23 pageant is going to be in Florence, AL this year at Marriott Shoals! Our organization is for women ages 60 and above. This pageant is growing, and  having more interest than ever. Each of the delegates have a philosophy of life as well as a platform. The winner from last year’s pageant was the first Miss Alabama (Tammy Little Haynes, 1984) to win Ms. Senior Alabama. Her platform was educating about hospice benefits and awareness for ALS. She then won Ms. Senior World in November 2021. Dana Self took the title and crown of Ms. Senior Alabama 2021-22 when Tammy won Ms. Senior World 60s. Her platform was to educate about ARDS. Other examples of our delegate’s platforms have been the following: drilling wells for water in Africa, elder abuse, mental health issues, breast cancer awareness, homelessness, the importance of health exams, and many others.

Ms. Senior Alabama, Inc. is an organization dedicated to enriching the lives of senior women, while also encouraging them to share their experiences, wisdom, and their value in life. The organization has an experienced Board of Directors who volunteer their time to ensure that Ms. Senior Alabama has the necessary resources by fund raising to carry out its purpose of funding the Ms. Senior Alabama State Pageant. Ms. Senior Alabama functions exclusively for charitable, educational, and entertainment purposes in order to keep older adults feeling useful and still contributing much to society. We refer to these ladies as being in the Age of Elegance. This pageant is not a beauty pageant, although the ladies are beautiful inside and out, they are being encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and demonstrate their talents and poise in front of an audience. They always tell us that they enjoy the experience, make lifelong friends, and have much more confidence to go back to their communities and volunteer at their churches, hospitals, or senior centers. We want to secure the most outstanding senior woman to represent the state in the national pageant, as well as many appearances throughout the year. The delegates from 2020 & 2021 have worked together to visit retirement homes, participate in parades, support veterans, and to support women all over Alabama.

In the last 4 years, we have had two Ms. Senior Alabama winners who won Ms. Senior USA as well as one who won Ms. Senior Universe. We also have a former Ms. Senior Alabama who holds the title of Ms. Super Senior Universe, a title won by a lady over the age of 75 who has done great things for the improvement in the lives of seniors.

Miss UNA Claire Hedrickson will be performing in dance this year at the pageant, as well as Ms. Senior Alabama 2021-22 Dana Self will be dancing, and Ms. Senior World 60s Tammy Little Haynes, Evan Riley (a 9 year old country sensation from AL) will be singing, along with returning Ms. Senior Alabama queens will be singing also. The theme is Stars Fell on Alabama…Step Into the Glow, therefore we will be showcasing notable women throughout history at our pageant. There will be free vendor tables available to any Alabama owned business who would like to sponsor the pageant and/or donate to the swag bags for delegates.
