Marie Hyche Thomas, 90, passed away on Friday August 24, 2012, at ECM Hospital.  Visitation will be 1pm until 2pm Monday August 276, 2012, at Greenview Funeral Home.  The funeral service will follow at 2pm in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Rev. Chris Underwood officiating.  Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Park with Deacons of Highland Baptist Church serving as pallbearers.

She was born and grew up in Northport, AL.  and  graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School.  She was a long and faithful member of Highland Baptist Church where as a young woman she taught small children in Sunday School.  Mrs. Thomas devoted her life to her husband and her children and their happiness.  She valued her children’s education and helped them with their school work and numerous school projects.  She had a soft heart and a good sense of humor.  She loved music, both popular and gospel, and she loved her flowers and the birds that passed thru her yard.  There will be an empty place in our hearts but we are comforted to know that she has gone to a better place where one day we may rejoin her in Heaven.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Lonnie and Lula Hyche and all of her  seven brothers and sisters leaving her as the last remaining member of her family.  Also preceding her in death were her husband of 69 years, Carless C. Thomas; her only son, Sammy L. Thomas and granddaughter, Rebecca Chestnut.  She is survived by her three daughters; Patsy T. Newman (Gene) of Ellicot City, MD, Peggy T. Chestnut (Ray) of Weiner, Arkansas and Shirley T. McDowell (James) of Florence; granddaughter, Martha Holladay of Moundville, AL and grandson, Adam Thomas of Huntsville, AL.
We want to thank all of her caregivers from Southern Care Hospice for the special care they gave Mother.  Also a special thanks to Rovena from Home Instead for the care she gave our Mother and our family.  Many thanks to Dr. Lyman Mitchell for his care.
