DECATUR-The Morgan County Master Gardeners will host their annual plant sale April 15-16, 2023, at the Point Mallard Expo Pavilion. Garden enthusiasts can choose from a large selection of hanging baskets, annuals, perennials, shrubs, vegetables, herbs, succulents, native plants and some of the South’s top pass-along plants.
The Morgan County Master Gardeners Annual Plant Sale is a perfect place to get inspired with gardening ideas. Hundreds of plants will be available to choose from to satisfy any gardening need or skill level and patrons are encouraged to arrive early for the best selection. According to Ramsey Huffman, president of the Morgan County Master Gardeners, there will be hanging baskets and pre-planted containers ready for the patio or porch. Experienced gardeners will be at the Ask A Master Gardener table to answer questions and to do free soil pH testing. Anyone is welcome to bring a sample to be tested during the plant sale hours. A typical sample should fill a quart plastic storage bag halfway.
Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 15 and 1 to 4 p.m. on April 16. The event is held rain or shine. Purchases must be made by check or cash only. The Point Mallard Expo Pavilion is located at 2901-C Point Mallard Circle in Decatur. Only service dogs are allowed. Admission is free and parking is free. The covered pavilion is ADA accessible, and Master Gardeners will be on hand to help with drive-up plant loading.
The Morgan County Master Gardeners Association is a not-for-profit organization operating under the umbrella of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who offer the local community reliable and relevant gardening information, and education opportunities. The revenue from the annual Plant Sale funds its community projects. Some of the association’s activities include:
• Provide monthly lunch and learn educational programs that are free to the public at the Decatur Aquadome on the second Wednesday each month February through November.
• Provide a grant program for local schools and assist schools in planning and developing outdoor classrooms. Offer a college scholarship for a local student.
• Donate gardening publications to the local library. Provide horticultural information and pH soil testing at community events and local farmer’s markets with the Ask A Master Gardener table. Assist in the design and development of community gardens, parks and exhibits.
• Assist with the Hospice of the Valley garden and provide plants to their clients.
• Donate hundreds of plants to local projects.
