Morgan County Sheriff’s Office Arrest Suspect In Assault

MORGAN COUNTY-The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement concerning the arrest of a suspect in the assault on a victim resulting in the individual being sent to hospital where he remains in a coma:

“On October 9, 2021 Morgan County Deputy Sheriffs Sharbutt and Mukaddam responded to a disturbance call in the 50 block of Terry Rd in unincorporated Hartselle. Once on scene Deputies located a male victim who was bleeding from his head who was conscious but unresponsive. Deputies determined that an individual had arrived while the victim was mowing a yard and a verbal altercation turned physical with the unknown subject allegedly stomping on the victim’s head several times. The victim was treated and taken to Huntsville Hospital in critical condition. He sustained multiple skull fractures with possible brain damage, a broken jaw and a partially torn off ear.
Investigator Dickson arrived on scene where Deputies determined the identity of the suspect and issued a BOLO for the suspect and vehicle. During this time, the suspect Austin David Ray Wiley returned to the scene and was detained. Investigator Dickson arrested Austin David Ray Wiley, 27 of Altoona who is charged with Assault 2nd Degree -Aggravated Assault. He was transported and booked in the Morgan County Jail with a $75,000.00 Bond.
The victim remains in a coma in Huntsville Hospital. Additional charges are possible if the victim’s status changes.

Bond, if applicable, is set by the courts using the bond schedule submitted to and passed by the legislature.”
