DECATUR-Last week Investigators from the Decatur Police Department’s Special Operations Unit and the Special Response Unit served a narcotics search warrant. Here is how they describe the event:
“SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:
During the month of May 2014, Investigators with the Decatur Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit received complaints of large amounts of illegal drugs being sold from 1208 Brookline Avenue apartment #6. Investigators began an investigation and were able to obtain a narcotics search warrant for the residence.
On May 15, 2014, Investigators with the Decatur Police Department’s Special Operations Unit and members of the Special Response Unit executed the narcotics search warrant at 1208 Brookline Avenue apartment #6. While doing so, officers positioned at the rear of the residence observed subjects run out the back door.
When the subjects saw the officers at the rear of the residence, they immediately ran into an adjacent apartment, which was occupied at the time by the resident. The officers pursued and were able to detain the subjects. One of the subjects detained was identified as Richard Mitchell. The subjects were escorted back to apartment 6.
Investigators began searching the residence. During the search, investigators located a quantity of cocaine in excess of 28 grams inside the residence. Investigators also located a large amount of U.S. currency inside the residence that was consistent with the sales of illegal narcotics. The U.S. currency located was seized and is pending condemnation proceedings.
Investigators continued their search and located quantities of prescription pills, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. The drug paraphernalia found was consistent with the packaging and sale of illegal drugs.
Richard Mitchell was placed under arrest for Trafficking in Cocaine, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree, Criminal Trespass 1st Degree, and Resisting Arrest. Mitchell was transported to the Decatur City Jail. He was later transferred to the Morgan County Jail and is being held in lieu of $504,500.00 bond.
The investigation is ongoing and future arrests will be made.”
