Mona Crumpton Ellis, 86, passed away Tuesday. She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise R. McDowell, father, Floyd Andrew Crumpton, stepfather, Curtis McDowell, brother, Billy Wayne Crumpton, and two sons, Thomas Scott Robbins III and David Hunter Robbins. She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Merph; daughter, Leigh Rheney and husband, John; daughter-in-law, Rosalyn Robbins; grandson, Jordan Robbins; granddaughters, Jessica Neill, Megan and Elizabeth Robbins, and Nicole Crum and husband, Sean; and two great-grandchildren, Camden and Anna Kate Naish.

Mona was born in Vicksburg, MS, but spent most of her growing up years in Birmingham, AL. She spent the last 54 years in Huntsville and Madison. She was a charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she volunteered with membership for eight years and later wrote welcome notes to new members.

She retired from Huntsville City Schools and immediately began volunteering at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens. She became a member of the Garden Guild later and volunteered in many areas in the Guild. She became a member of the Museum Guild and became very involved serving on many committees. She also served on the board of Christian Women’s Job Corps for eight years.

Mona was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

A celebration of Mona’s life will on Sunday, June 9 at 3 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church on Hughes Road in Madison with Dr. Alan Weatherly officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to her Church, Christian Women’s Job Corps, Hudson Alpha, the Botanical Garden, or your favorite charity.
