FLORENCE-The Florence Police Department issued a statement concerning a Grand Jury indictment in a case from 2021 involving the stillborn death of a child:
“Chaunquonecia Vasjhaud Smith of Florence, was indicted by a Lauderdale County Grand Jury and arrested Sunday.
The incident occurred in January of 2021. Officers were notified that a baby had been delivered deceased at the North Alabama Medical Center and the mother, Chaunquonecia had tested positive for THC. The baby was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy. The baby tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
The case was presented to the Lauderdale County Grand Jury and she was indicted for CHEMICAL ENDANGERMENT TO A CHILD.
Smith is currently being held without bail due to a probation violation.
