FLORENCE – Congressman Mo Brooks will be at clothing company Alabama Chanin, 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, to view an exhibit chronicling the history of local textile manufacturing.
The exhibit is part of Project Threadways, a research partnership between Alabama Chanin, the University of Mississippi’s Center for the Study of Southern Culture, and the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area that records, studies and explores the legacy and impact of the textile industry in the Shoals and the American South. Featuring interviews with former employees, the exhibit focuses on the history of textiles in Florence as well as T-shirts made by Tee Jays Manufacturing Co., which closed in 2005 after almost 30 years of operation.
Brooks, of Huntsville and a Republican congressman representing Alabama’s 5th District, will tour Alabama Chanin headquarters The Factory, 462 Lane Drive, Florence, and talk to company founder Natalie Chanin and MSNHA director Carrie Crawford about Project Threadways.
