Funeral services for Chief Warrant Officer 4 (Ret.) Mitchell David Dobbs, Jr., 87, of Decatur will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 23, 2013, at Peck Funeral Home Chapel, Hartselle, Alabama, with Rev. Brooks Barkley and Rev. Ben Hayes officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM prior to the funeral service at Peck Funeral Home. Interment will be at Herring Cemetery in the Massey Community immediately following the funeral service.
Mr. Dobbs, who died Friday, September 20, 2013, was born February 24, 1926, in the Massey Community in Morgan County, Alabama, to Mitchell David Dobbs, Sr. and Mattie Garner Dobbs.
Mr. Dobbs is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Orr Dobbs. Mr. Dobbs is preceded in death by a son, Michael David Dobbs. He is survived by three children Danny Dobbs, Debbie Hood and Dave Dobbs. He and Dorothy were blessed to have five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Dan Dobbs and Bill Dobbs of Hartselle, Alabama, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dobbs joined the United States Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater as a Navy corpsman attached to the United States Marine Corp. He also served in the United States Army in the Korean Conflict and the Alabama Army National Guard. He retired in 1986 with more than 42 years of faithful and dedicated service to the country he loved so dearly.
Mr. Dobbs was an avid golfer and loved time with his family. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Decatur, AL.
