Mirial Alverson Lowe, 97, journeyed into heaven Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Mirial loved the Lord, her family, friends and the children she taught or counseled. She was a gentle, selfless, patient, loving and kind person who lived the golden rule and greatest commandment daily. She took great joy in giving and doing for others. Mirial will be missed by many.
A memorial service will be held Monday, December 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Founders Chapel of the Auburn United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the chapel beginning at 10 a.m.
Mirial was the oldest child of Rev. Lonnie and Mrs. Bessie Moore Alverson. She graduated from Huntingdon College and Florence State College. Mirial exhibited her passion for working with children through teaching and counseling in the public schools and volunteering in her church. She finished her career as senior counselor at Bradshaw High School in Florence, Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Seth Lowe, and infant daughter Marjorie Eleanor Lowe; her parents; brothers Gordon Alverson, Rev. Donice Alverson, and Hugh Warren Alverson; and sister Ruth McNutt.
Mirial is survived by her daughters, Ruth Morris, Martha Miller and Mary Richburg; son-in-law Mahlon Richburg; brother Robert Alverson; brother-in-law Clinton Lowe (Wilma); grandchildren Andrea James, Vicki Watson, Katie Richburg, George Richburg, Paul Miller (Leahi Tate), and Olivia Gist (Jordan); great-grandchildren Hillary Panquerne (Joseph), Savannah Watson, McLain Watson, Emma Miller, Alexander Miller, and Seth Gist; loving nieces and nephews; and special caregiver and friend Mae Moore.
The family offers special thanks to Auburn United Methodist Church, Hospice Advantage, and Oak Park Nursing Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Florence, Alabama, or a children’s charity of your choice .
