mileneA Celebration of Life for Mrs. Milene Hill Owens, 78, of Hillsboro will be noon Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 at Bethlehem P.B. Church with Pastor Antwan Plott officiating and inhumation to follow in Owens Family Cemetery in Courtland. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. Public viewing will be today from 2-7 and Thursday from 10-7 at Reynolds Funeral Home.

Mrs. Owens was born on March 10, 1938 to the late Johnnie and Ruth Hill in Morgan County. She departed her earthly life and began her eternal life on Oct. 30, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Bethlehem P.B. Church in Hillsboro. She was a faithful member of the Mothers’ Board and Sister’s Aid Society. In her more active years she enjoyed being a part of the Sunday school, Senior Choir, Vacation Bible School and the B.T.U. She was also a member of the Corrinder 97 Order of Eastern Star.

Milene attended Lakeside High School in Decatur. She was employed by Lawrence County Board of Education and retired as a school bus driver for over 25 years. She also worked as a substitute teacher and was known by many of the students from the community. During election time, Milene was a poll supervisor at the Hillsboro city-voting site.

Milene was the widow of the late Rev. Thomas H. Owens of 52 years. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Julius, Earnest, Levolia, Samuel and Nelson Hill and sisters, Pauline Miller and Addie Chapman.

She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Miranda (Tim) Brown, Orlando, Florida, Thomas (Nell) Owens, Rev. Kenneth Owens, Darryl Owens of Hillsboro, and Timothy (Tammie) Owens of Decatur; one stepson, Rev. Tim (Isabelle) Swoope of Memphis, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren, T.J. Carter, Nikki Brown, Jamel Owens, Kendra Owens, Mariah (Jarvis) Redus, Tyra Brown, Ken Owens, Jr., Jared Brown and Ira Owens; four great-grandchildren, Jai Redus and Averi Owens; four brothers-in-law, Rev. John B. (Hazel) Owens, Jr., Rev. Leo (Betty) Owens, Oscar (Betty) Owens and Rev. Willie (Lucille) Owens; three sisters-in-law, Helen Jones, Sallie Massey and Lillie Robinson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and loving dear friends.
