Mildred Scott Beard age 93, passed away August 31, 2022 at Charter Senior Living in Jackson.
She was born October 24, 1928 in the Estes Community of Chester County, the daughter of the late Edd and Lillian Freeman Scott. She graduated from Chester County High School in 1945 and Freed Hardeman College in 1947. She worked at Chickasaw State Park from 1947 until 1951, and then was employed by the FBI in Washington from 1951 until 1953. In 1953 she married Theodore (Ted) Diehl. They made their home in Denver, Colorado where she worked for Fitzsimons Military Hospital. Mr. Diehl died in 1956.
She married Dr. Hollard Beard in 1972 and she continued her career at Fitzsimons Hospital and Dr. Beard practiced medicine in Denver and later Haywood, California until his death in 1981. Mrs. Beard retired from the Civil Service in 1985.
She returned to Jackson in 1985 and did volunteer work at Jackson Madison County General Hospital for 30 years. She was a member of the “HAGS’, the Happily Aging Girls Society, who met often. She enjoyed traveling.
She was a member of the Estes Church of Christ for many years and also attended the North Jackson Church of Christ.
Mrs. Beard is survived by two brothers, William ‘Bill’ Scott of Jackson and Donald Scott of Athens, AL and a sister Ann Knight of Neenah, WI.
She was preceded in death by parents, two husbands and two sisters, Dorothy Sims and Frances Beene.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with burial to follow at Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10 am Tuesday.
