Mildred O’Neal “Millie” Palmer died peacefully at home in Hambleden on June 25, 2015.
She was born in 1930 in Anniston, Alabama. At the end of the second world war she moved with her family to England where her father, Edward O’Neal, of Florence, managed Monsanto Ltd. She spent most of her life in England, but her ties to Florence remained strong. She attended Sweetbriar College in Virginia and spent her vacations with her grandparents in Florence. She continued visiting the family farm on Gunwaleford Road whenever her travels brought her to the United States. Millie will be long remembered for her warmth, her friendliness, her elegance, her wonderful sense of humour, and, above all, her smile.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Julia H. Camper O’Neal and Edward Asbury O’Neal III, her parents, Mildred Pruet O’Neal and Edward Asbury O’Neal IV, her sister, Julia Ann O’Neal Gould, and her brother, Edward Asbury O’Neal V.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, David V. Palmer; her daughters, Melanie Rendall, Alice Parsons, and Katie Bentley; her sister, Nancy O’Neal, of Florence; and 11 grandchildren.
There will be a service of thanksgiving in Hambleden on Aug. 6, 2015.
