Mildred Lumpkins
July 11, 1926 – March 20, 2025
Emmie “Mildred” Lumpkins, 98, of Estill Springs, TN, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 11, 1926, in Sumter, SC, Mildred was the daughter of Thomas and Hattie Hudson. She was one of ten children, growing up with seven sisters and two brothers. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Floyd Lumpkins, as well as her sons-in-law, Jim Holland and Mike Rose and grandson, Andrew Rose.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Mildred dedicated her life to her family. She worked alongside her husband as he ran variety stores, all while raising their three children, Janis (Mike) Rose of Estill Springs, Neal (Regina) Lumpkins of Hartselle, AL, and Laura (Art) Preston of Murfreesboro, TN.
She was a proud and loving grandmother to Bryan (Eraina) Lumpkins, Amy (Joe) Banks, Troy Rose, Ashley (JB) Hill, Andrew (Erica) Rose, Andrea (Jean Claude) Rizk, Kelli (Cory) Hollandsworth, and Taylor (Jacob) Worley. Mildred’s legacy continues through her sixteen great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.
Mildred was an active member of the Methodist churches in the towns where she lived. She enjoyed baking and was known for her delicious homemade treats. She also loved watching birds and found joy in their simple beauty. In her later years, she was cared for with love and devotion by Rose Sutton, Beth Farris, Kathy Morris, Kathy Coffelt, and Sallie Bradford whose kindness and support meant so much to her and her family.
Her great-grandsons, Alex Rizk, Gavin Lumpkins, Joshua Rizk, Trae Banks, Abram Banks, Brayden Rose, and Ian Lumpkins will serve as honorary pallbearers, a testament to the love and admiration they had for their great-grandmother.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 11am-12pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester, TN, with the funeral service following at 12:00pm. Mildred will be laid to rest at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, TN, on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 1:00 pm, where she will be reunited with her husband for eternity.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
