Mildred Irene Rodgers, born on September 7, 1922, in McNairy County, TN, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones. She was the cherished daughter of the late Felix and Sarah Prince Taylor.
Mildred’s life was a testament to love and resilience. She married Guy Paulk Evans on September 25, 1938, and after his passing on September 3, 1966, she found love again with William Odell Rodgers, marrying him on August 8, 1970. Mr. Rodgers preceded her in death on December 26, 1986.
A devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church in Humboldt, Tennessee, Mildred’s life was rich with love, family, and meaningful pursuits. She found joy in sewing and gardening, skills that reflected her nurturing nature and creativity. As a twin herself and part of a family with three sets of twins, Mildred had a deep bond with her 12 siblings, being the last survivor among them.
Her professional journey included dedicated years at the Adamsville Shirt Factory before transitioning to become a dedicated homemaker and later retiring from the Humboldt City School System.
Mildred’s legacy lives on through her family. She is survived by four daughters: Demona Darlene Foster, Donna Renee Gill of Maryville, TN, Gloria Vinson Harris, and Cynthia Gayle Vinson Welch; two sons, David Eugene Evans and wife Peggy of Selmer, TN and Billy Vinson; seven grandchildren: David Lynn Evans, Ernest Leon Foster, Penny Evans Carroll, Brian Keith Foster, Jonathon Shane Evans, Jacob Evan Gill, and Joshua Taylor Gill; 9 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands and parents, Mildred was preceded in death by a son, Dale Edward Evans; six sisters: Dorothy Howard, Ettie Taylor Johnson, Minnie Taylor Massey, Lessie Taylor Carlin, Opal Clifton, and Dorothy Taylor; and nine brothers: Otis Rodgers, Milford Taylor, Jesse Taylor, Ester Taylor, Vernie Taylor, Milford Taylor, Sherman Taylor, Herman Taylor, and Otis Taylor.
Mildred Irene Rodgers will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family and community.
