Mildred Hammack Jacob went to be with her Lord and Savior, beside her husband Paul on March 3, 2022. She was 97 years old. Mildred was born in Trenton, Kentucky, and attended the University of Tennessee.

She served as secretary at Overstreet Elementary School in Starkville, Mississippi for over 13 years. She took a special interest in each child that came into her office and turned every dark event into a positive and uplifting experience through her love and devotion to each individual child. In addition to rearing a family and caring for elementary students, Mildred supported her beloved husband Paul who was a professor of electrical engineering at Mississippi State University. Mildred was a long time member of Starkville First Baptist Church, and was heavily involved in the Starkville Women’s Club. Approximately 12 years ago, Mildred and Paul moved from Starkville to Aldersgate Retirement Community in Meridian, Mississippi. There, she quickly befriended everyone she met. She had an uncanny ability to bring light and hope to those around her regardless of the situation others faced. She showed comfort and peace to her fellow residents, even in one of her darkest hours that being the death of her beloved Paul. This positive attitude followed her all of the days of her life and she was confident she would hear the words “well done, my good and faithful servant. ”Mildred would constantly say that Aldersgate “was a great place to live.”

The members of her family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Aldersgate and all of its personnel and workers, too numerous to list. The love Mildred shared with others was the same love she received in return from those at Aldersgate.

Mildred is survived by her son, Bill Jacob (Ruth) of Meridian, Mississippi and her son Bernard Jacob (Sandi) of Gulf Breeze, Florida. She had five grandchildren, Bill Jacob Jr (Amy), Kristen Baker (Ed), Allison Shatzel (Doug), Megan Hart (Andrew) and Paul Jacob (Natalie). She also has 12 great-grandchildren.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Ashton Hammack and Mary Dickinson Hammack along with her brother Billy Hammack and her sister, Mary Doster.

A private graveside service for family only will be held at Memorial Garden Park Cemetery with Welch Funeral Home in charge of the service.

The family asked that in lieu of flowers that a contribution be made to Aldersgate Retirement Community https://www.mss.org/Aldersgate or Central United Methodist Church https://centralunitedmethodistchurch.org/.
