Mildred Elizabeth Thomason McCord – Obituary

Mildred Elizabeth Thomason McCord, 93, passed away on August 24, 2017 at her home in Chesterville after extensive battling with cancer. She was born in the Longview Community in Pontotoc County on August 22, 1924 to Erchel and Mamie Hall Thomason and was the second of seven children (six girls and one boy). She married Albert K. McCord of Ecru on May 10, 1941, and they lived at Pontotoc, in Verona, California, Flowerdale, and Belden. They settled in Chesterville in 1959. She played semi-pro basketball in Tupelo in the 40’s and 50’s. Mildred worked for Bluebell and Hunter Sadler for 35 years as a pattern marker. A faithful member of Bissell Baptist Church for over 59 years, she was also a faithful farmer’s wife to her husband, Albert for 52 years, and they raised three boys. She enjoyed sewing, working in her yard, raising cattle, cooking for her entire family and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her three sons; A.K., McCord, Jr.(Judy) of Ecru, Larry McCord(Tanya) of Tupelo, and Jeff McCord (Mary Ann) of Saltillo. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren; Teresa Nicholson (Darrell) of Wren, Brian McCord (Cindy) of Tupelo, Eric McCord of Pontotoc, Jarrod McCord (Cindy) of Chattanooga, TN, Jacob McCord of Tupelo, Dylan McCord of Saltillo and Rhea Broome (Eric) of Hamilton, MS; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister, Grace Clayton of Pontotoc, her brother, John Thomason of New Albany, her sister, Marilyn (Jim) Cooper of Wilmington, NC and her sister, Eleanor (Bud) Spradling of Trenton, TN. several nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sisters, Marie Brown and Virginia Lindsey.

A service celebrating Mildred’s long and fruitful life will be at 3 PM Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Randy Clark officiating. Visitation from 1:30 PM-service time Sunday only. A Private graveside for the family will follow in Lee Memorial Park.
