Mildred Duke was born in Boaz, Alabama on Maech 12, 1927 to Martha L. and Bertha Evans. She was one
of twelve children and was the last surviving sibling. She married Ray Duke in 1945 when they were both eighteen. They were happily married for almost 62 years until his death at 80 years old. Mildred was a devoted Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Guntersville, Al where she attended regularly until her health no longer permitted. Prior to moving to Guntersville in the mid-seventies she was a lifelong member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Albertville, Al. She taught Sunday School classes at both churches, sung in choir and was active in WMU, G.A’s and VBS at Mt. Vernon. She is survived by her two daughters Cynthia Duke & Myra (the late Jimmy) Pankey Two grandsons Matthew and Andrew (Ashley) Pankey, Great-Grandchildren Tinslee & Grayson Pankey, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was a bright light in the world and will be missed and loved forever. Donations in her memory may be maded to First Baptist Church of Guntersville Al or Shepherd’s Cove Hospice.
