MUSCLE SHOALS-I am formally announcing my candidacy for the Muscle Shoals City Council, Place 5. 4 years ago I campaigned for an opportunity to represent the citizens of my hometown and after losing by a narrow margin it has been my intention to run again so I am asking now for the chance to serve.
My thoughts then were as they are today. To thrive as a city, we must always seek new ways to encourage development and job creation through effective recruiting and marketing. I want to work with the mayor and other council members to formulate a comprehensive marketing strategy. That will include a list of contacts of people who are in decision making positions in industries and corporations that we believe can do well in our area based on our work force demographic and our infrastructure.
We are facing unprecedented challenges nationally and certainly on the local level we feel that strain. Growing up in a locally owned family business, Southgate Auto Parts, here in Muscle Shoals, was a great blessing for me and gave me an appreciation for small business and for the commitment and hard work it takes to be successful. I am concerned for our small businesses here and I believe we should be encouraging “Buy Local” to help the businesses that are critical to the health our local economy.
My wife Sharon of 32 years will start her 20th year of employment by the Muscle Shoals Board of Education, the last 7 of which have been served at Howell Graves Preschool as Secretary/Bookkeeper. I came through the Muscle Shoals school system as did our 2 sons, Brantley and Brayden, so we are proud and supportive of our schools and certainly know the big draw they are for our city.
I hope voters will consider supporting my desire to serve.
