Mignon A. Bowers, age 71 of Athens, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Pensacola Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, FL. Mrs. Bowers was born January 30, 1943 in Lamar County, AL to Joe Bob Andrews and Zada Trull Andrews.
Services will be Thursday, November 13, 2014 11:00 a.m., at Central Church of Christ with Bill Perkins and Larry Remington officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 12, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Church. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Preceded in death by her parents, Joe Bob and Zada Andrews; two brothers, Joe Bob Andrews, Jr. and Jiles Andrews.
Survived by her husband, Jack Bowers of Athens; one sister, Wanda Remington (Larry) of Little Rock, AR; nephews, Troy Andrews of Elkmont, David Andrews (Michele) of Hartselle, Al, Tim Remington (Katy) of Maumelle, AR and Cori Andrews of Mobile, AL; four great-nephews and one great-niece.
Mignon was married to John “Jack” Byron Bowers of Athens, AL for 38 wonderful years. She graduated from Athens High School and received a BA degree in business from Athens State University. Mignon served as the City Clerk for the City of Athens for 25 years. She was dedicated to City and Local Government and after retirement served on the Athens City Council. Mignon, during her service to the City of Athens, was involved in many local and state government associations and continued her work assisting local governments in the State of Alabama by working with The Center for Municipal Solutions for the past 10 years. Mignon was a member of Central Church of Christ. She was involved in many civic organizations including Alabama Retired Employees Board, Silver Haired Legislator, Civitan, VOAD – Volunteer Organizations active in Disasters, Limestone County 911 Board, Limestone County Parks and Recreation Board, Vineyard HOA, Palmetto HOA, Former ACCMA Director (Alabama City/County Management Association. She also volunteered for Hospice, United Way, Special Needs Rodeo, Keep Limestone Beautiful, Sprit of Athens, and Birdie Thornton School.
Mignon was a loving/caring person. She touched many lives in many ways. She did so not for publicity or credit, it was because she loved and cared for them. She spent most of her time caring for others and working, not leaving much time for herself. She was a great boss, a perfectionist, and believed in being a true professional and encouraged that in others.
