Mr. Micheal J. Vickers, Sr., age 86, of Scottsboro, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, following a brief illness.
Mickey was born in Alexander City, Alabama and grew up in Bemiston, Alabama. He was a proud member of the Talladega High School Class of ’55. Upon graduation, he continued his education at Alabama Polytechnic Institute, graduating in the Class of ’59. While attending college he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Frances Johnson. After graduation he enlisted in the army and rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant while stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was certified to practice public accounting by the State of Alabama in 1967. Also, that year he moved his family to Scottsboro, Alabama, where he practiced accounting until his retirement in 2012. While practicing in Scottsboro he served for many years on the Emergency Medical Services Board and the Jackson County Hospital Board. He served as a deacon, elder and youth mission leader at the Scottsboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was long time member of the Scottsboro Civitan Club.
Micheal J. Vickers, Sr., is survived by two sons: Micheal J. Vickers, Jr. and James Kenneth Vickers; their mother Fran Vickers and six grandchildren: William B. Helms, Katherine Helms (Aric) Patrow, Anna M. Vickers, Micheal J. (Natasha Frig) Vickers, III, Mathew E. (Shonna) Vickers, Jameson C. Vickers and Camille R. Vickers; three great grandchildren: Jack Patrow, Alex Patrow and Ellie Patrow.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Guy and Nannie Goss Vickers, brother Gerald Vickers and sisters Cathel Clark, Yvonne Grice, and Jean Culberson, daughter Mitzi Helms Mascarenhas and grandchild Saxon Guy Vickers.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Friendship Lodge at PO Box 1292, Scottsboro, AL 35768-1292.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15th from noon until 3 PM at Rudder Funeral Home in Scottsboro with a private family graveside service thereafter.
