It is with a heavy and broken heart to announce that Dr. Michael Shales, passed away Thursday evening, April 18, 2019. Mike was a gifted healer (chiropractor), athlete, accomplished pianist, musician, philosopher and the best father to his children. Originally from Traverse City, MI, Mike attended Interlochen Arts Academy, University of Michigan, and Palmer College of Chiropractic. Mike received his chiropractic degree in 1989 with honors. Upon graduation, he moved to Alabama where he practiced for 22 years, first in Bay Minette and then in Huntsville. He also practiced for 6 months in New Zealand before returning to Michigan where he continued to practice for 4 years.

Mike lived his life his way as a wise and free spirit. Mike maintained a highly active life; enjoying hiking, kayaking, spelunking, ultimate frisbee, swimming, road cycling, mountain biking and motorcycling. He was dedicated to his children, Jeanette and Jonathan, and spent a vast amount of time sharing his interests and skills with them.

It appears Mike suffered a massive heart attack while enjoying one of his favorite past-times – Mountain bike riding. Surviving Mike are his children, Jeanette (Chris) Meadows, and Jonathan Shales, his brother, William Shales, sister-in-law, Kathy Shales and a multitude of friends of whom are too many to innumerate but each deserving of individual recognization. Preceded in death are his parents John and Barbara Shales and his brother, Robert Shales.

We will be holding a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 27, 2019, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Barn at 58 Martin Street, Madison, AL  35758.
